Martin HS Orchestra

March Newsletter

What a busy February it was! Our kids continue to amaze us by growing not only as musicians, but into young adults. Thank you, parents, for your continued support of the orchestra.

We had 7 orchestras perform at UIL Concert & Sight-Reading Contest on February 27, 28 & March 1. The highest rating an orchestra can receive is a “1” which displays an “excellent” performance. A “2” is a “superior” rating. An orchestra that receives an overall rating of “1” in both Concert and Sight-Reading has accomplished “Sweepstakes”.  The Martin orchestras received the following ratings:

                                    Concert            Sight-Reading

Concert 2                     1 2 1                 1 2 2
Philharmonia                1 1 1                  1 1 1
Symphonic                   1 2 2                1 1 1
Philharmonic                1 1 1                  1 1 1
Concert 1                      1 1 1                  1 1 1
Symphony String         1 1 1                   1 1 1
Symphony Full             1 1 1                   1 1 1

We are EXTREMELY proud of ALL Martin Orchestra students! Each group did absolutely stunning.

A special thank you to the orchestra parents that were able to ride busses (IN THE RAIN) on quite frantic days: Patrice Kevil, Mary Elliott, Scotty & Jonda Lehrmann, Shannon Hartman, Christine Lee, Russell Mirabelli & Aileen Bennett.

Spring Trip is almost here! March 9-12. Students will drop off luggage at Martin HS beginning at 6:30am on Friday, March 9. They will go to 1st period, report to 2nd period and then come immediately to the orchestra room.

If students are bringing any kind of medication, you must have the prescription form to accompany the medicine. This is in the parent meeting packet.

More details will be given in class.

Hollywood Nights

Our biggest fundraiser of the year is coming! Please click on the “Booster Club -> Hollywood Nights” tab for more information.

We will begin asking students for donations for this event very soon – please be on the lookout for a handout regarding Hollywood Nights in your email and in your child’s backpack.

It is a night of fun you will NOT want to miss! Performances by small ensembles, costumes, dinner, a silent auction and a live auction! More information will go home with students before Spring Break.

Booster Club

Our next Booster Club meeting is at Colter’s on Tuesday, March 20th at 7pm. Subscribe to the Booster Club Remind by texting @mobc17 to 81010.
