General Audition – for students NOT auditioning for Symphony
Symphony Audition – for students auditioning for Symphony
If you are not currently in Symphony and want to audition for Symphony, you will complete two auditions: the General Audition and the Symphony Audition.
Incoming 9th grade (current 8th graders) Audition Information – if you are not currently at Boles JH or Young JH, please follow the instructions given in the Incoming 9th Grade Audition information. All BJH and YJH students will have live auditions during their class at their school.
Results for ‘24-’25 Martin Orchestras are posted on Canvas and in the Orchestra room on the last day of school, after the final bell. Orchestra Directors will NOT respond to emails questioning orchestra placement until August. We encourage all students to evaluate their audition preparation and overall performance during the past year before contacting a director.
All auditions are performed in front of two directors. All auditions are recorded for referencing purposes to ensure correct orchestra placement. Directors do not take placement lightly. Each student is discussed thoroughly and placed based upon instrumentation, performance, and where directors believe the student will thrive.
Believe it or not, many students are already choosing their 24-25 classes. When talking through your child’s schedule, please remember a few things:
Double-blocking orchestra is best
The Martin Orchestra Program is one of the best and largest in the Nation because of our ability to see students every day.
Symphony Orchestra is a required double-block course.
You CAN get AP credit for orchestra
AP credit is offered to students double-blocked in Philharmonic or Symphony Orchestras. These are the most advanced orchestras at MHS.
AP Orchestra is an independent study course with several written assignments. See any orchestra director for more information.
Be proactive about your course selections
There are several options for summer courses or off-campus PE to fit double-block orchestra into your child’s schedule. It is best to have those conversations with counselors now to know your options.
Classes are NOT set in stone at this initial meeting
Don’t stress if you are unsure about your courses, you can change your selections through August of 2024.
Did you know you can join the Martin Orchestra Booster Club (MOBC) for FREE?
Did you know the MOBC provides tens of thousands of dollars and hundreds of volunteer hours in support of our Martin Orchestra program? We could not be successful without their dedication!
Our next meeting will be on MONDAY, May 13th at Colter’s BBQ at 7pm.
